How to Have a Great Gospel Meeting

  • Pray – As Paul asked the Ephesians to “pray on [his] behalf” in his efforts to preach (Ephesians 6:19), we should pray for the work that will be done by the one preaching.
  • Invite – Visitors are always welcome when the church assembles (1 Corinthians 14:24-25). However, many visitors have other obligations during our regular service times. A Gospel Meeting provides a special time when they may be able to attend.
  • Attend – While inviting others is good, it is also important that we attend ourselves – to encourage our brethren (Hebrews 10:25) and to be built up by the preaching of the word (Acts 20:32).
Obviously, one who preaches in a Gospel Meeting is to “speak as the oracles of God” (1 Peter 4:11, NKJV). Anytime the gospel is proclaimed in such a manner it is time well spent. But each one of us can do what we can – praying, inviting, and attending – to help ensure that the meeting is as good as it can be. —Andy Sochor [This article was published in the May 2017 issue of Banner of the Cross]
